| In 2002, council
member Jack Skaggs took it upon himself to commission a commemorative
coin for the US Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Oklahoma to
be given away as a memento of the Marine Corps birthday luncheon. This started a tradition of creating a commemorative coin for the annual Marine Corps birthday luncheon that is funded by individual coin donors, separate and distinct from donations received for the support of Oklahoma Marine Corps units. These coins are given away to each attendee at the conclusion of the Marine Corps birthday luncheon. |

2002 300 coins purchased by Jack Skaggs and donated to the council for distribution at the 2002 birthday luncheon. This design has been adopted by the council as the "standard" council coin. An additional 150 were purchased in 2006 using donations from Jack Skaggs and Lloyd Hardin. An additional 100 were purchased in 2010 using council funds.
